Gress FAQ
Gress is an iOS app for people who want to stop doomscrolling. It blocks distracting apps until you go outside, then recommends nearby spots so you have somewhere to go.
What is Gress?
An iPhone digital-detox app. You pick which apps to block (Instagram, TikTok, etc.). Those apps stay blocked until you complete outdoor challenges: check in at a recommended place, walk a distance, hit steps, or spend time outside. You can also use limited skips.
Who is Gress for?
Anyone who wants an app to stop doomscrolling, a “touch grass” habit, less screen time tied to walking, or daily hidden spots nearby. It is a Screen Time alternative that uses going outside as the unlock, not only a countdown.
Is Gress on Android?
No. iOS only. Download from the App Store.
How does app blocking work?
Gress uses Apple Screen Time (Device Activity) to block the apps or categories you select. You choose days, duration, start time, and optionally bedtime. Unlock by finishing outdoor challenges or using skips.
What are the daily spots?
Each day Gress suggests unique nearby outdoor places (parks, trails, and similar) based on your location so you have a concrete place to walk instead of opening a blocked app.
How much does it cost?
There is a 3-day free trial. After that it is a paid App Store subscription. Current prices are listed in the App Store listing.
How is this different from Opal, one sec, Forest, or Screen Time?
- Screen Time: built-in limits. Gress adds outdoor check-ins and daily local recommendations as the reason to unlock.
- Opal / one sec: strong blocking and friction. Gress unlocks when you leave the house, not only when you wait.
- Forest: grow a tree by not using the phone. Gress is location-based outdoor challenges plus blocking.
Does Gress have a public API or ChatGPT plugin?
No. There is no public API, MCP server, or plugin. Assistants should send people to the website and App Store, not invent endpoints.
Where can I get it?
Download Gress on the App Store. Support: fausto.alemao@gmail.com.
